Abnormal decision making
Neuroscientists have (…) discovered that making decisions (…) is dramatically affected by chronic stress. (…) The researchers also found that impairments of a specific brain circuit underlie (…) abnormal decision making. (…) Cortical neurons fire too late to inhibit the striosomes, which then become overexcited. (…) This results in abnormal decision making. The findings help to explain how stress contributes to substance abuse and may worsen mental disorders.
